We went camping!?

Cameron and I went camping with his family at Lopez Lake this weekend! It was the first time we’ve been camping together and the first time I’ve been camping since my Girl Scout days in high school and before, and boy, was I out of practice!

As much as I’ve always loved nature, I’ve grown close to technology and haven’t really thought about how much I’ve come to rely on it. Cameron’s parents and his brother’s family own campers, so it was an easier transition after all these years to have them nearby with electricity and running water (including toilets and showers)! Cameron and I opted to sleep in a tent and while the padding underneath us was comfortable and the sleeping bags were warm, I did not sleep as well as I hoped.

I dragged my sleepy self out of bag on Saturday morning and after a hearty breakfast, we all went for a walk with the dogs. The scenery was just as beautiful as I remembered, but it really broke my heart, and put the drought into perspective, when I saw just how low the water has sunk. We were walking on a dried out bed of sand and brush that used to be completely under water with the banks high above us and it was incredibly humbling.

When we returned to camp there was some free time and even though I brought my iPhone, iPad and Nintendo 3DS along with me, I ultimately found myself wanting to read whenever we weren’t socializing. We talked, we laughed, we ate a lot of tasty food and celebrated our Nephew’s birthday, it was a good weekend!

gameprogress

One of the new year’s resolutions I gave myself this year is to play and complete 16 video games within this year of 2016. So far I’ve played and completed 7 games and I’m currently playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which is a mammoth of a game, believe me!

  • Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4
  • Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power
  • Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake
  • Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Microreview – 20/20!

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception has a slightly different tone and feel than it’s predecessors, but I still found it to be completely enjoyable and well done. I will say that the horse to convoy level was one of my favorite sequences I think I’ve ever played in any game, ever.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Microreview – 20/20!

Where Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune set an exceptional stage for the series, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves only made it greater. A different country, a different lost city (that I personally felt more appealing than the last), but still full of action, romance, spectacular archaeological finds and just the right amount of supernatural material.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Microreview – 20/20!

I have a fascination with starting a series of games that I’ve never played before at the beginning and working my way to the most recent. Though slightly older, this game caught and held my attention from start to finish. I really felt like I was immersed in a modern day Indiana Jones, with action, romance, spectacular archaeological finds and just the right amount of supernatural.

Microreviews

I came up with the idea for microreviews after trying my hand at the traditional longwinded method of game reviewing and realizing that I myself have never fully read a whole game review. Have you? The visuals catch my eye and then I skim for the bits of information that interest me and I leave the rest alone.

Solution: I play games, I take screenshots, and I provide basic information on the game with a rating out of 20 points tallied up from four different categories; Fun factor, gameplay, sound and visual style. Although I will confess that some of the screenshots may not be my own based on whether I was able to capture while playing.

Of course, I love discussing games. So if you’d like to start a conversation about any game I’ve played and posted a microreview for, please don’t hesitate to leave me a comment!

My first microreview on Uncharted: Drakes Fortune will post next Tuesday, May 24th.

Here I go again!

Welcome to my new blog!

For those of you who may not be familiar with me, I’ve had other blogs on other platforms before, but as I transition into a new part of my life, I’ve decided to transition my blog onto a whole new platform and give a new look and tone.

What’s new? Well, my parents are moving in with my 90 year old grandmother to help keep an eye on her and take care of her, rather than hire a stranger or place her in a home. This leaves their house available to us and once we’ve done a bit of work to make it our own, we will be starting a family!

In addition, I’m also toying with the idea of starting my own shop on Storenvy. I won’t spoil it with too many details until I know more what I’m about, but I can tell you it will be focused on handmade felt garlands.

This blog will still be very game and health-centric, I’d just like to start widening my lens to explore more aspects of life.
